 FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Frequently Asked Questions Here you find answers to some of the more frequently asked questions that we receive. We hope that this can be a useful resource to you. If you still have questions that aren't answered here or you would like to contact us for another reason please feels free to contact us.
Question : What is the Brandywine River Like (fast/slow)?
Answer : The Brandywine River is a very slow, meandering river. It is perfect for beginners or older couples that want a relaxing ride without having to much prior canoe/kayak knowledge or skill. The river usually is about 4-5 deep on avg. though there are spots that are much deeper and also some spots that are much shallower. Water level is always in direct relation to the amt. of precipition that we have had in the area.

Question : Can I bring my own canoe or kayak on one of your trips?
Answer : Yes you can. We charge $37 PER CANOE OR KAYAK that you bring and we will drop you in for either our 2 or 4 hour trip (according to our normal trip schedule). YOU WILL NEED TO MAKE A RESERVATION a few days in advance prior to coming.

Question : Are the canoe/kayak/tubing trips guided?
Answer : No, we do not have guides for our trips on the Brandywine River. We are strictly an outfitter that provides rental equipment and the service of transportation to and from the river. None of our staff are certified guides.

Question : Are we allowed to bring food and beverages on the trips on the Brandywine River?
Answer : Yes, you may bring food and non-alcoholic beverages...alcoholic beverages are strictly forbidden and will not be tolerated. Please be aware that we need to keep our waterways clean, so please remember that all trash needs to be packed out in a trash bag or other similar device.

Question : Are we allowed to bring pets on the river trips?
Answer : Yes, pets are welcome to play on the river as well, though, owners must be aware that they will be riding in vans or buses to the river put-in and must get along with other people and possibly other pets.

Question : What is the maximum number of people that you can accomodate?
Answer : We keep a stock of about 90 canoes in the middle of the summer. If you have a large group, the further in advance the reservation is made, the more likely we are to accomodate your group. We will use large school buses to transport people to and from the river.

Question : Where do we get put in for the 2 and 4 hour canoe/tandem or solo kayak trips?
Answer : We put everyone in for the 4hr trip at the Brandywine Picnic Park at Lenape, and the Brandywine River Museum in Chadds Ford for the 2hr trip. Our 2hr tube trip starts at Smith's Bridge and all trips end at Thompson's Bridge in the Brandywine Creek State Park.

Question : What is the refund policy for trips?
Answer : Weather conditions for outdoor activities change constantly throughout the day. We try to make reasonable predictions on weather conditions every morning at 7:00, before reserved trips are scheduled to depart. However, during the course of the day before our 5pm closing time, numerous changes may occur in local weather conditions that we simply cannot predict. Therefore, the policy at Wilderness Canoe Trips is NOT TO OFFER REFUNDS due to weather conditions during your outdoor activity.

Question : Can I order a boat through your store if you do not have it in stock?
Answer : Yes, we are more than capable of ordering you a canoe or kayak that we are a dealer of. Even though we do not have it in stock or just don't have the color you want we will order it in for you at no extra charge.
Note: Sale prices are only on in stock items.

Question : Do you sell used canoes and kayaks?
Answer : Yes, we are the largest dealer in the tri-state area for new as well as used canoes and kayaks. We sell our rental canoes and kayaks at the end of every season. These boats are only used for one season before they are sold. Call us for availability and prices.
